Lewis F
Hi everyone, Just wondering what people on here do with there dogs over the summer period when it comes to training/working etc how do you keep them fit when in the summer you can't walk as far and how you get then ready for th oncoming season? Any advice will be great!! Thanks
pegleg31
Train either early mornings or late evenings as it cools off. Also give the dog's a normal walk but make sure that there's plently of water about (ie. river/lake ).I'm pretty lucky really as less than 500yds away there's a walk about 4 miles that runs along a river, or a short drive and the same sort of walk but around a few lake/ponds.Or if i'm feeling like a coffee and a cake i'll take them to clumber around the lake
kent
its a hard one, depends on the dog as some handle heat some don't. My GWP doesn't do too well on sunny days and i have to walk him early or late, running about and dummy work needs to be brief and when we get back to kennels he drinks a lot. Have seen the Yanks hydrating thier dogs by squirting water into thier mouths but when i try he thinks i am chastising him as my wife used to chuck water on him when he played up as a pup  then again he needs to be able to handle the cold more than cope with the sunshine living here
