beanieboy
I currently use a Nikko Sterling Gold Crown 3-9x42AO scope on my .22lr. It is very good however I was thinking of getting something with a bit more magnification, for example Nikko Sterling Gameking 6-24x50AO. Anyone use this scope or have any other suggestions? - I know some consider 3-9 mag adequate for .22lr, I however find it difficult to zero at 55 yards as it is difficult to see that centre section of the target clearly. Hi, You might be using the wrong target. Can you see your quarry species, say, rabbit, clearly enough to shoot out to your maximum range? If so, then all you need for a zero target is to be able to identify and accuratey place the reticule in the centre. If you can see everything too clearly, eg, every bullet hole, it's not ideal. You really don't want to see what you've done until you've finished firing any given amount of rounds and are possibly going to make an adjustment. This avoids the well known problem of "chasing the error". If you've not heard of it, this is where you subconsciously try to correct the position of the last shot instead of maintaining the group prior to any adjustment. For example, the armed forces use a black screen with just a small white patching out paper as the target.
