webber
Lets not forget that we are only allowed to shoot woodies under the terms of a general license, on the pretext of crop protection. That said, my view is that you can only shoot the pigeon once. If your permission has crops, as Yickdaz indicated, and they are being damaged, you are duty bound to your land owner / farmer to to provide crop protection to allow the crop to establish. However, better bags will generally be had at harvest time, and later on when the roost shooting starts. Therefore, less shot now = more shot later, so if you must, you may; but remember that pigeon shot now, can't breed for later. webber

Richie10
People shoot pigeons for sport not because they are going to save some crops. Stubby you get paid to do it, most other people pay out to do it. Even with free permission, money still comes out of your pockets for cartridges and decoying equipment. Get paid for it = Pest control Pay out for it = Sport. I don't like killing animals in the breeding season, as i do it for my enjoyment and prefer to leave them to breed for more sport in the winter. Alot of newcomers to the sport are only Summer hunters and put their guns away in the winter. They don't understand the whole season thing. You should have put a dent in the pest populations in the winter than having to try and control them in the summer as well.
