To the victims go my thoughts and prayers, but to remember Derek Bird as a great man seems odd to anyone from the 'outside'.

Just re-read the post - possibly referring to Spike, not Derek so apologies.

Yes, sometimes it is quite hard to interpret what ****** means. Presumably the software used to run this forum has a list of words that get automatically replaced with asterisks - most irritating although perhaps understandable. I think the reference to "Spike" was Spike Dixon, one of the unfortunate victims, it is he who was the "great man".

Thought I'd post something none Lefty related!

Derek Bird was also a victim though, a victim of mental health issues or perhaps just a victim of society and the dreadful pressures that can be brought to bear on all of us.

It makes you think doesn't it......

Didn't he bring a lot of that pressure on himself by not paying his taxes though? And banking on receiving a big inheritance to pay off HMRC wasn't a great strategy! First to agree our tax burden is too heavy but when hasn't it? Heard his accountant tried to explain he wasn't in as much trouble as he thought and that he wasn't going to be locked up for tax evasion.

But couple all that with mental health issues and an FAC... the rest is history. very sad
