Hamster
I have the above rifle in FAC and very happy with it apart from the barrel length which is just too long in confined spaces as I use a HW silencer. Is there anyone you know who can cut away the shroud part leaving just the barrel end into which the silencer can be screwed so saving a few vital inches? Thanks in advance. Gnome of the Woods
From memory you would need to screw cut the barrel or have an adaptor made unless you shorten it from the breeh end. There are some guys on the AAOC who have cut down shrouds, but I am not sure hope it is done.
Hamster
I don`t think shortening from the breech end is an option as it will have a negative impact on shots per charge, screw cutting the barrel proper once the shroud is gone wouldn`t bother me. I just wish I could find someone who has either done or knows who can do it.
Gnome of the Woods
How will shortening the shroud affect shot count? A similar disscussion here http://www.airarmsownersclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=31540&hilit=shroud+short There was one where a guy had done it but it looks like that post was lost when the forum had a glitch. Rowan Engineering do custom work, might be worth giving them a call. WWW.rowanengineering.com
Hamster
How will shortening the shroud affect shot count? No you misunderstood, shortening from the shroud end is OK, the breech end is what I want to avoid as it will render the actual barrel shorter which in turn will reduce shot count / efficiency. Thanks for info . I`m glad it`s not just me who thinks the shroud is pointless! Edited June 25, 2011 by Hamster
tweedledee
the shroud was developed for the american market where silencers are illegal. it was useless on my s400.i had it shortened and added a theoben vortex. the gun was too noisy, pity they did n`t try to fix it on the later generation guns. sold it moved to theobens now, never looked back
Gnome of the Woods
Let me get it right for my own sake! The barrel is shorter than the shroud, you want to make the overall length shorter by cutting the shroud back to the same length of the barrel. What I was suggesting was not touch the muzzle end of the shroud but the breech end, making the shroud the length of the barrel (length untouched). Avoiding the need to screw cut the barrel. This should just involve cutting the shroud back and leaving the silencer part untouched. If I have got it wrong forgive me!

jb410
Hi just been surfing PW and found your post. Have you done anything about shortening the shroud yet ? Have some experience of the barrel shroud configuration having had to fit a new shroud last year. The barrel is 6-8 inchs shorter than the shroud if memory serves the barrel is also shorter than the air receiver so shortening the shroud to the barrel is not possible if you want to fit a mod. Have a look at the manual that comes with the rifle its quite informative about the internals of the shroud, you can see what's in front of the barrel and it will help you work out how much you can cut from the shroud. If you want a shroud to practice on let me now still got the one I dropped last year that bent the front lip round.
Hamster
Hi, thanks for that , but I tend to get this sort of thing done by a gunsmith. The gun is worth modifying so I`ll get it done soon enough, reckon I`d enjoy using it even more.
