nickcass23
Ok so this time last year I had a big moan about the lack of effort at the BASC Bodelwyddan show, well I just wanted to congratulate the organisers for a much better show this year. It was particularly the lack of food and drink stalls and vans i was moaning about! Vast improvement this year with lots of chutneys, jams, meat etc etc!!! Ok so thats the good My question to BASC is this- This year there were no gun/rifle sales. I was hoping Valley Arms would be there but no sign, is there a problem getting traders selling guns and ammo or is it just a lack of interest?? Once again well done i look forward to next year Edited June 27, 2011 by nickcass23
.philmypower.
Hi buddy i know the owners of valley and one of the lads has just had a baby so they never went this year. I also went to the show and had a smashing time, my 3 year old springer came 5th in the long retreave, well chuffed. Your right there were plenty of food/drink vans but at £6 a burger and £2 a can of pop me and the wife took a picnic.

Just read that thread and i did point out there was a lack of guns/ammo. If like someone said there charging 2k for a food pitch then its no wonder the traders wont go!! I will be going next year but would like to see an improvement in gun/amo sales. The 2 arenas were good and very entertaining. It would be nice to see some feedback from BASC explaining whats going on at the show!! In my eyes there were more people there this year compared to the last couple(I know the weather helped) so there either making a mint from us and the traders or The Castle is charging them so much for the 2 days that its justified?? Watch this space hopefully!! Edited June 28, 2011 by nickcass23
nickcass23
Gotta say i'm a little dissapointed that there's no reply from BASC
David BASC
Don’t be disappointed – as I have said many times I always try to pick up threads o n this and other forums, but I will miss one or two from time to time, so if anyone thinks I have missed something they can PM me or e-mail me. Thanks for the feedback re the show. Yes we were a few readers down this year, but all of last years and others were invited to go. I know the recession is making it tough for some to commit to taking a few days out of the shop as it were to come to show. We don’t charge £2k for a pitch, there is a catering concession for the main burger van, bar etc, but every other trader gets charger a much smaller amount depending on the size of their stand. We will always look to make the show better if we can; the gundog competition and clay pigeon coaching were especially busy this year. I guess we could try to do more on the airgunning side but any other thought welcome. David

David BASC
For sure we asked several ammo / firearms traders to attend, as they have in the past but they could not make it. As I said its tough trading out there at the moment, but I agree it’s important we do all we can to get more of them there. Something our Welsh team are working on. David think about it, i just cant do it, other matters etc the responces i suppose? Tell them its a tenner for a stand and you would have to fight them off- being serious times are hard and we all have to remember this when setting our prices, whatever it is we are selling. The holiday is officially over, every buisness has to make a profit and survive, overspending will not be tollarated and the same with overcharging. the dealers are out there learning survival the hard way, i trust BASC does not become complacent either. David BASC
No we won't become complacent I can assure you - thanks for the feedback! David
scolopax
Only the big Game fairs have a good selection of dealers, the smaller regional game fairs you are generally lucky to find a single stall with guns on display. If you want to see guns go to the CLA.
