preparing rabbit skins for gloves etc

Recommended Posts

ok, this may have been covered before but I might need a little guidance.

Taken up hunting this year and had some success. Really like the taste of rabbit and tend to eat what i shoot (or pass it on to friends and family). Would like to know if i can use the skins as well though?!

I know it's bound to be possible but how hard is it to prepare the skins for use (prob for gloves fur linings etc? Any tips or how to's on techniques gratefully recieved. Or tips on books which might fill me in.

Thanks for any info.

Mike

I cure skins off foxes and rabbits by submerging them in a tanning chemical. Once soaked for a day or two, they are perfect.

I buy the chemical from Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies. It costs around £19.00, but when mixed with water, makes two gallons, which can be used a few times.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Steve.

Snowdonia supplies is your best bet.

If you look through my topics from earlier this year there are a few about skins and taxidermy.

I've done quite a few skins which are soft and supple and would be perfect making something with - when i get round to it <_<

I use K-tan from Snowdonia.

It takes trial and error bt you'll be happy with the result if you put in the elbow grease when fleshing the skins. That is by far the most important thing and also the biggest ball ache!

good luck, and have fun :good:
