wildfowler.250
I just shot my first fox in ages the other evening and I was going to remove the tail. Can I just cut around the base of the tail and pull it off,(leaving the bone still attached to the fox)? Will this be enough or will the tail go high? I don't mind doing it but not if the tail is going to stink Are there any other methods or tips you guys would recommend to preserve it? Cheers in advance

Beardo
don't just chop the tail off including the bone - far better to skin it. it's very easy... cut all round base of tail - tie a loop of baling twine around the base - stand on fox body and pull the string / baling twine - the skinned tail should pop off. you can then fill the hollow tail, making curing much easier
vulpicide
As Nick says then get an old biro use the outer plastic tube push it to the tip of the tail and fill with ordinary table salt slowly withdrawing the pen tube till the tail fills with salt put it on a shelf leave for a couple of months then shake out the salt thats it ready no smell no work I've used the same one for the last six years as a lure for terrier racing displays. wildfowler.250
Cheers guys I managed a combination of skinning and pulling it off. It looks good though. I'll just treat it with a meth/salt/head and shoulders combo and I'm good Appreciate the help! Cheers!
mark@mbb
Cut around the tail and leave the bone in place fill the tail full of salt and leave it to dry for a couple of weeks works every time Mark
vmax55
cut skin only at the base of the tail and get 2 sticks to clamp around the base and put your foot on the body and with the sticks clamped firmly in your hands pull the skin off the bone....simples and only takes seconds. then soak in meths or cure with salt
