Oddman
Advice please Family holiday in Pembrokeshire last 2 weeks of July - nearest water I can see is Western Cleddau and Llyn y Fran. As a modest Yorkshire river angler I have zero experience of 1) Sea Trout 2) Reservoir fishing 3) Salt water So what should I do with a sneaky few hours? welsh1
LLys y fran is a large man made dam,i have never fished there but it is well stocked with trout, boats are available for hire. This might help a bit, http://www.flyforums.co.uk/welsh-stillwater-trout-fisheries/120581-llys-y-fran-reservoir-pembrokeshire.html As for the Cleddau,it is the sea,one of the deepest harbours in the world, there are bass running in july,as well as loads of Mackerel, and all the usual other fish,If you pop to Tenby harbour they do fishing trips on boats, from a couple of hours to all day jobs. Depending on which part of pembrokeshire you will be staying,i would say pop in to a local sport shop or tackle shop, they will point you in the right direction. Fishing off most shores is good, and fly fishing on the shore by the seaweed is always fun,it is a fishermans paradise, with sandy, rocky, muddy, beaches to chose from, and you also get some of the most stunning coastal scenery thrown in for free. Have a good holiday.
MiLisCer
Take a carp rod and a fixed spool reel - go and enjoy - you can "bait" fish at Llys y Fran (Or you used to be able too) but not bubble floats - some nice trout (And big eels) for a good day out. Likewise, local bait shop and get some lug worm, mackerel and some sand eels and go for a walk along the shore - you should find Pollock, Bream, bass, mackerel and some eels - a good evenings (or morning sport) if you are lucky you may find some flounder or dabs or even a mullet or 3 (Use bread, push the hook inside it and make sure it is all covered) Mike
