  1. Packham claimed moor management responsible for Boxing Day floods This is a particularly divisive and irresponsible claim in a community still recovering from the floods and worried when the next one may happen 5 minutes of searching on EA website and I found the data to refute it (my graphic) CpuFN64WcAAQogE.jpg:large
  2. Very independent minded. Fantastic scent hounds but bred to run with a pack and make 'music' when on a scent, not work with a human partner. If you really wanted one or two for a while you could volunteer to puppy walk for your local kennels. You'll probably be pleased to give them back!
  3. Don't need to be particularly fit The course of the hunt tends to be in a circle and if you choose a good viewing position you'll see the hounds working. The old hands generally know where to go. If you want to follow the pack more closely have a word with the huntsman and don't get too close. http://www.amhb.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=63&Itemid=53 `This site should tell you how to find your local pack. Sab activity can be a problem but newcomers are welcome if you have country credentials.
  4. http://www.samrossgower.com/contemporary-paris-eating/lamb-breast-st-menehould/ Time consuming (takes 2-3 days) Messy Absolutely superb Use lamb stock for poaching and reduce the cooking stock to a syrup and use as a sauce
  5. Had one 2 years. I have had some serious kit for mountaineering and ski touring and harkila holds up well in comparison with the best. I'd ski and climb in the pro hunter x but wouldn't shoot in my mountaineering gear! Very good jacket has kept me dry through this terrible weather. Only closure at sleeves is velcro so water ingress when arms are hold ing gun in 'ready' position Sizing quite big in the chest for its length. But is generally well cut with good freedom of movement for arms No thermal padding just a lining but I find it very warm. Hood fits over hats and ear defenders. Well designed - moves with head when shooting Cartridge pockets sag a bit. Quite heavy when dry and once the surface finish has 'gone' it wets up and weighs quite a bit Colours are very dark Look all you like, I'll be surprised if you find it under £400. I call it money well spent - don't expect to replace it any time soon
  6. Worseley is good but more like 45 minutes to an hour Kelbrook probably quicker than Greystones
  7. I wouldn't correct it myself, they likely have the wrong details on the police computer as well. Just contact them. West Yorkshire were friendly, helpful and efficient in correcting an error on mine They may want the old one back before issuing the new one so scan and print a copy before sending back
  8. Don't keep our figures myself but would estimate that after 5 days we're about the same as you Usually finish mid thirties on pheasant and 100+% on duck. Gave up on partridge a few years back they don't hold. Not bad for amateur keepering and no neighbouring shoots
  9. Around 200 quid from saddlery and gunroom
  10. My cocker is 7 months old. My first dog. Want him to do all round duties on our DIY walk 1 Stand 1 shoot. I've been following Joe Irvine's "learning chain' and things seem to be going well. Recall good on voice and whistle. I can sit him and walk out to 30 yards. He sits to whistle. Wheels fall off a bit when there are distractions. Hunts and retrieves tennis ball and puppy dummy. As a novice I'd like to be sure I'm on the right track. Does anyone have any recommendations for trainers near Halifax? Thanks
  11. Saw this myself and posted the link elsewhere - stunning photography Interesting how the BBC regards hunting as OK when practised by 'traditional' people
  12. Picked him up on Saturday I'm a complete novice so fun times ahead Tim
  13. I had the same looking after a friends cocker for a week. Several people with out of control dogs - able to sit 'mine' and let them go by with theirs straining. 'You've got that dog well trained' 'It's not my dog. It's my first/second day with it' Should have seen their faces!
  14. I looked at your pup when there were no replies, had my tea, had a think, and came back to post Honey before seeing the other replies. I think PW has spoken
  15. Model number is the SPZ ME Has 26 inch barrels which balance nicely with the shortened stock
  16. I was a bit dismayed by the idea of serving barely cooked gut so I do it like this I fry a very finely chopped onion in plenty of butter whilst the woodcock are roasting. I gut the birds with a fork and chop the entrails (+livers heart and lungs) as finely as possible. I add them to the butter/onions cook for a minute and then add alcohol - port or brandy. Flame th alcohol and reduce. Spread this sauce/pate on toast and serve the split woodcock on top It is delicious
  17. Citalopram (cipramil) is licensed in the UK for panic disorder which might be described as 'anxiety attacks' I can understand why a certificate holder is wary of an association with depression. However, depression and anxiety are two sides of the same coin in clinical practice and all of the SSRIs can be effective for anxiety (sometimes at higher doses than used for depression) Beta blockers are used to control the physical effects of 'nerves' eg rapid heart beat. and are very much a first level, primary care intervention. I can't see how someone with anxiety symptoms controlled with beta blockers and no other issues shouldn't be a fit and proper person All the best
  18. Agree with Colin To store it just take the barrel off. You need to take it off to clean so not a big deal. I have a 410 - the silencer is cumbersome and I use it for sitting rabbits you have to get used to the different point of aim It's a pump - it will cycle snap caps so clay loads aren't problem Spare normal barrels are available from the saddlery and gunroom but expensive around £200
  19. Worth practicing casting on and finishing a fly until you are confident. The sweariness is decreased if your fly doesn't unravel at the last moment. They don't need to be perfect to catch fish. The biggest advantage I think over commercial flies is you choose the hooks - even basic kamasan B170s are way better than the hooks on mass produced flies Davie McPhail has a huge variety of videos http://www.youtube.com/user/DavieMcPhail
  20. Your boss could still sign it even when he's your ex boss.
  21. I'm a hunting man too (beagles) Our masters would be mortified if our hounds caused that kind of damage. Find out who is in charge an submit a bill for the damage. I would be very surprised if you need to go to court. No hunt can afford bad PR.
  22. I was wondering this myself as I'm in the market for one Apparently the there is a swivel stud that fits to magazine tube cap See about 4.40 on this vid If you look closely at the photos on gun trader some of them have it fitted and others don't.
  23. Let's say I'm enjoying a holiday on the Celtic fringe of our island! I was fishing where a creek flowed into a bay on the tidal ebb. The flow created conditions very similar to the spate rivers I'm used to fishing so I was fishing upstream to features like rocks, piles and the creases between the tidal flow and the slack water. About 10.30 am 2 hours past high tide dull overhead.
