If you read the facts of the case, it was NOT an E-collar (Which used correctly is simply another tool in the trainers box) but it was a boundary containment fence used to keep his dog inside his boundary because it kept escaping and wandering off. They fall under the same law in Wales - it is not the E-collars which should be banned but the "idiots" who use them - used correctly they can be used to re-inforce a behaviour, they should not be used to teach a behaviour. And before you all start shouting obscenities, no I don't use one as routine, but yes I do own a couple, I train dogs 7 days a week, not just gundogs, but protection dogs too. An E-collar is also a useful tool to re-inforce that dogs should not chase stock. Saves many a dog from the one way trip to the vets. kent
I totally detest people pushing for laws to remove from others what they do not even understand. I keep a collar its very effective used as an aversion method, it isn't cruel i always test it on myself before it is ever used they don't actually hurt what they are is very, very fast which is esential for this type of training. I am sure some see them as a training aid in the way you tell a dog to sit, it doesn't so you give it a blast on the collar as punishment- this is rubbish and not what they are for and neither will they work under such circumstances, all you will do in this circumstance is break trust. However for a persistant stock chaser etc they can be mustard and have saved many from the one way ride
