Fox cubs and a morning on the squirrels

First cub I shot was whilst out pigeon shooting. In a lull, I thought Id pop up the nearby wood and try for a squirrel or two, and a few minutes later, one showed himself and was swiftly dealt with. As I walked along the ride towards the pheasant pen, my eyes were drawn to two ginger legs and a tail showing behind a nearby tree. I froze and emerged a fox cub, intent on watching a blackbird foraging in the leaves. I shot her in the engine room with the auto and dropped like a stone. Ended up with 54 pigeons decoying so good day in all.

Next one was a week later. I was decoying a few corvids but was very quiet. I had shot three and was sat in the hide when I saw the barley in the field next to me moving. I squeaked on the back of my hand and two mins later a fox came under the gate and up the hedge towards me. I got him within twenty yards then shot him with the shotgun. A nice dog fox cub in the bag. I put him out to try and make the corvids come in better, and shot a further 18.

Last night I was bored so I popped out at 8pm to see if anyone was combining yet. I went to a permission but saw it was all tall rape but thought, oh well, nice evening, so I sat on a grass patch near a dung heap and had a squeak. 15 minutes later, and I honestly dont know where from, a fox was bombing in right towards me! I swung up the Winchester and shot him stone dead with a 40 gram No 4. I measured the distance - 6 feet!! :P
