Side by side chokes

Ive got a couple of old side by sides with fixed chokes. Am i right in thinking that the right hand barrel is the more open of the two and the left the tighter barrel. I wonder if they are the same as when i clean barrels with the phosphor bronze they 'feel' exactly the same diameter.

Next time you buy cartridges take the gun to the shop with you and ask them to put the gauge in the barrels to determine the choke of the barrels. Also, if there is a difference in choke you should see it by looking down the barrels into a ceiling light.

Obviously best way is to get the guage in it.

Hope that helps

gauging the tubes would be the first thing to do.

also check the diameter of the barrels, they could be different.

even if the chokes are the same, but the barrels are different sizes can have a huge impact on the pattern thrown...

or you could just shoot a pattern plate.
