It was a bit windy that day come to think of it :good:

And the .22/250 would have gone straight through the 10mm and 16mm plate :good::good:

Am I the only person who is distinctly worried about someone who owns an anonometer? :P:P

Lets put it like this Stuart ............I did'nt buy it :P ............Obviously you are,nt aawre of working on portable lift platforms where you need to know the wind speed if your taking it up to 90 feet :P

That explains it Ive :P for a moment I thought we had an anorak in our midst

Having been up in a cherry picker once, (indoors!) and almost filled my pants I don't blame you..

It's a good job I have another 10mm plate in reserve ...........36 mm in total :P ........some backstop eh!......Good job I'm built like a shire horse :sad1: ................Can be set up anywhere  hint hint

One anorak on here is enough already Stuart ..............Sure you can work that one out :P

About 3 months ago I was on a very windy range. It was blowing my 243 off 1.5 inch at 100m and the .17hmr 5 inch at 100m!!

Dave

12 mph don't sound alot but it's enough to move a 50grn bullet Travelling around 3000fps by 38 mm ....Which was my whole point of this thread .

Moderate Wind will will effect even the most powerful of calibres.........Don't anyone mention .50 bmg as I'm trying to be realistic with an opinion based on hunting rifles in the UK :good:

here is a good alternative to a pda run ballistic program. it works well if you input your data well. the drift has to be printed for a 10mile/hour wind.

from then on multiply that value by the wind present on that day so for example if it says that it drifts 2MOA at 200yds in 10mph wind then a 5 mile per hour wind will drift 1MOA, 6mile per hour will be 2MOAx0.60 1.2MOA of drift.

This is always assuming that the wind is coming in from 90degrees meaning full value. if the wind is coming in from 11 o clock consider it as half value, from 10 oclock consider 0.7value and from 9.30 consider x 0.8. if its from 9 consider it full value so thats the first value that the ballistic program gives you.

it doesnt make much sense to print the wind drift in Inches. You should either print it in MOA or Mils depending on your optic. if the correction is small, say 0.5MOA at 300yd then you can hold off but its good to learn to dial in your wind. ideally your optic should have matching turrets and matching reticles for example Nightforce`s NP R1 reticle which is in MOA and has MOA turrets so you can either hold it off or dial it. S&B has reticle in Mils as well as turrets in Mils so if your wind drift is 1.2 Mils (mildots) then you either dial that or hold off. in that case if the wind drift was 1.2Mils you can dial 0.2 and hold off 1Mil.
