shotgun and rifle cleaning kit

Your problem will be that the rod for a 177 is very thin, and is a near fit in the rifle barrel which stops it bending under the push through pressure.

The same thin rod in a shotgun barrel may well bend without the barrel walls supporting it, and you could end up knackering the kit.

Also, 4.5mm brushes are usually female threaded on M3, while shotgun brushes are either M5 ( Euro) male, or they are 9/32" BSB if they are P/H style.

Universal kits will either need adaptors ( more to go wrong) or in fact it will just be a big box containing two rod / brush sets, one for each purpose.

Unless the single boxed kit is the aim, I'd say you are best off buying dedicated kits for each purpose, after all they start at a tenner or less.
