Rat hunting

Finally got a AA s200, zeroed it for 30 yds at 20mm circle.

Tried AA field (10.85 ft/lb - 16.1g) and Bisley Magnum (10.5 ft/lb - entered the weight as 20.5g as did not know the true weight so this could be slightly out).

With AA field @ 30yds hitting zero

@ 20yds hitting 3/4 inch high

@ 10yds hitting zero

With Bisley Magnum @ 30yds hitting 1 inch low

@ 20yds hitting zero

@ 10yds hitting zero

Went out ratting at a grain silo, using the AA field. From a sitting/rested position at a baited area (inside the silo), could hit the rats every time at about 30yds.

When walking around outside the silo, rats were everwhere flitting about, poking their heads in and out of the holes, sitting just inside their holes (could see their eyes in the red filter), but generally too close and too quick to hit. Between two of us we only had 2 out of 8 shots outside.

The biggest problem was their not keeping still and being too close

Question 1 - would I have been better swapping the AA's for the Bisley's for better close range zeroing qualities, both about the same ft/lb, but was worried that the heavier/stronger pellet would do building damage to the outer layer metal box profile sheet, would it have?

Question 2 - If I tried a flat head being a lighter pellet would I keep the 30 yds zero for the AA, but get a 10 and 20 yds zero for the flat head?

Question 3 - If a flat head is an option what make to suit the s200? Also, when a domed pellet is fed through the "O" ring into the breech, being domed I would imagine wear to the "O" ring is minimal, with a flat head having a sharper flat edge to it, does this cause premature wear to the "O" ring? and do they feed readily with the 10 shot adapter?

I will bait the outside of the building next time, thanks in advance for any replies.

For rats you cannot beat RWS hollow point, they have lots of knock down punch, are very accruate, fly pretty flat out till 30yrds and are cheap to boot. :good:

I would zero for 20 yrds for rats, this is the only application my stealth was really good for, quiet quick to aim with lots of stopping power. :good:
