BrunoRadolini
I posted this in the Guns section, but got told it might be better here. I finally bought an Air Arms S400 off my friend, but he is left handed and it has a left handed bolt. I want to convert the bolt back to being right handed, and I know I need to get hold of the bolt handle, but I read something on another site that says the S400 may be tamper proof. Does anyone know how difficult this job is ? Many thanks in advance.
-Mongrel-
As far as I know the only bit that became tamperproof was the pressure adjustment screw. It should just be a case of buying a right handed bolt and undoing the screw that holds it on. Have a look at the Rowan Engineering ones, nice and SHINY  ! ...or not depending on what you want! Link to Rowan Engineering Yeah correct you can just swap it over sometimes take a little wiggling to get it off but you will get there i swapped a right hand bolt to a lefty, and as you say the Anti tamper they would be talking about would be little pressure adjustment screw :good:
Gnome of the Woods
1 get hair dryer 2 undo allen bolt in the end 3 heat bolt assembly with said dryer 4 remove the bolt and swap sides 5 put allen bolt back! I would recommend a look at the Rowan custom one's though. They are very nice. Anti tamper was brought in around this time 2007. Current measure mean you cannot access the internal workings of the gun or the power adjuster, both have no relation to changing the bolt. -Mongrel-
...4 remove the bolt and swap sides... I though the bolt handles were handed? ..and looking at the Rowan website they do specify left or right hand?
Gnome of the Woods
The AA one's are two piece where as the Rowan ones are a single unit. So once loose, you can rotate the AA one 180deg and relocate it.
jacksdad
I've got a S310 and want a left hand bolt, are they the same? You can undo the alloy 'bolt' bit as stated, but you end up with the gun ready to fire with the bolt 'up' and you pull down to open, back to front basically. You can defo get handed complete bolts, its not just a matter of undoing the end and turning it 180 degress
Ojun
Make sure you heat it up with a hair dryer most of them are loctited on.........ohh and then when handling the bolt to get it off use a towel or something not your bare hands I know its obvious but it gets hot very hot

BrunoRadolini
Thanks for all the replies, please bear with me - (I've field stripped plenty of full bore pistols in my youth, but this is puzzling me) I can remove the handle from the back of the bolt, but when the handle is on the other side, presumably I will rotate it counter-clockwise to unlock and pull back, whereas at the moment I rotate it clockwise... Does this mean I have to take the bolt itself out and do something to it ? Or does the bolt unlock in both direction ? Thanks again (sorry, newbie ) Those Rowan ones look nice! Gnome of the Woods
Pull the handle out and rotate the end piece 180 deg, then re insert the handle and re tighten.

jacksdad
The bolt on the S400 is defo handed, plus I think you might have to move the pin in the striker body from right to left, so that the bolt will turn when it is closed: it is located at the end of the slot that the bolt pin sits in, and stops the bolt turning the wrong way, much easier to do than describe! I will find Julian Bond's details, he will be able to sort it
