margun
I'm sat along the fenceline of a mates farm which borders some gravel pits, 350 or so greylags are feeding on the stubble a few hundred yards away. Hope they go to roost the way I think they will..... If not, all set for an early start tomorrow to get them on the way out.

mattslaptop247
I was at work this morning and literally several hundred flew over. Must just have made their way over here from migration.

margun
Well they all got up in one lot, rather than the skeins of 50 or so that dropped in. The nearest bird was about 60 yards out, but not a problem, at least all is sussed for tomorrow, will update. Lee - it always happens, why is it wildfowl always come over the spot where you just moved from, or while you're busy pouring a coffee or rolling a fag lol?! margun
Well, went out this evening and the geese were moving, but the first and second skein came out pover the treeline about 500 yards further along the lake edge. So we moved along and to the rough area and in no time I could hear chattering coming closer and closer, then a skein of 10 or so came through a gap in the trees, 25 yards up. I dropped one with the first shot :-) should have gone for the left and right but hit thin air with the second. We waited another half hour or so, several more skeins came out even further along the tree line, but way too far off. We decided to call it a day after a quiet spell and I said to my mate "you sure you want to leave now? **** law says they'll come out as we walk away". Well, what did I say to semiautolee yesterday? As we walked away, 5 mallard or so went past us to the right, straight through the gap in the trees where we'd be standing! The air was blue as you can imagine, so we walked on across the field, then guess what?! More chattering and 3 greylags came through the same gap in the trees, once again 25yards or so in the air! We all ROFLed (not!!) but anyhow, my first goose of the season so I'm a happy boy - as they say, time spent in reconaissance is rarely time wasted. Its a fishing and shooting fact, whenever you've got the phone, baccy pouch, flask or your old boy in your hand they come in. Well done on the first goose Mark
