Walk in cooler

Thought I would post up some pics of the walk in cooler I built inside my garage stall. It measured 8x8 before the walls which are 2x6 framing, so you can subtract about a foot each way. It utilizes an LG 10K window unit and a Ranco automatic temp control that tales the place of the factory set up. The fan is wired to run on high all the time to help prevent the compressor from freezing up and increases air circulation. The thermostat runs through the Ranco and is adjustable as far as you can get the unit to cool. I have had this unit down to 32F, but when running that cold it kicks in pretty frequently. For hanging game the optimal temp is 38F and it will carry that easily. As with any cooler the more you have in it the more efficient it is. It will be full of apples shortly prior to pressing them, after that it will see service cooling and aging venison. It is vital to use this AC unit as experimentation with others was disapointing. There are other options for the micro processor but the Ranco works well and is relatively inexpensive. The AC unit ran me around $250 and the Ranco was around $50. I used water resistant sheet rock and CDX plywood for the framing.

This is the ticket for you high volume bird shooters or deer killers if you want to get back in the field without spoiling your game before delivering to the game markets. It is pretty inexpensive to run IF you take care to insulate it thoroughly, especially the floor and sidewalls.post-43996-0-89502100-1316483712.jpg
