scooterboy Posted September 25, 2011 Report Share Posted September 25, 2011 Hi all, can someone give me abit of advise with a 8 month old cocker spaniel. I haven`t pushed him with any training yet, just the basics, sit and stay, he was coming back to me on 2 pips of the whistle but now he doesn`t come straight back and when he does, he stops about 6 yards in front of me. scooterboy Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Share Posted September 25, 2011 how long have you been training the dog.and how long is each training session.LW I had him when he was 10 weeks old, I havent pushed him in anyway, and when I introduced him to new things it would only be for a few minutes on the garden, I bought the book `Gundogs, their learning chain ` by Joe Irving and followed that, When I take him out I let him scamper about but he never goes too far away and always comes running back Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
lone wolf Posted September 25, 2011 Report Share Posted September 25, 2011 hi mate its got to be gently,gently,softly softly and above all he must not get bored.as already mentioned as you call him in walk backwards away from him really encouraging him and a very friendly voice with training sessions only lasting 10-15 minutes at a time.and also if possible train him somewhere were he doesnt normally get to run around and he will get to know what is expected at this ground atb LW Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
