The HW35 is as good as it gets for a basic functional break barrel as it`s extremely easy to work on and tends to go back together without stripping various pins and screws. It isn`t really what you`d call a target rifle though so I`d be interested to know what you mean there?

To make it noticably better you need to send it off for a tune which would cost around £60 upwards, if you would rather spend less and do it yourself then buy an aftermarket spring (not OX)in the right calibre, strip, degrease and reassemble with grease/oil available over the counter. You may want to replace the piston seal with a modern PTFE version but that`s about it DIY wise.

I would not tamper with the air transfer hole or start polishing the inside of the cylinder unless you have loads of experience. You also need access to a chronograph as it`s the only reliable way of measuring power, particularly so to make sure it won`t go anywhere near 12 ft lbs. In my experience the HW35 doesn`t readily go over this though.

Outdoor airgun clubs usually feature knock-down metallic silhouette type targets, some with tiny kill zones and at eye watering ranges  , I think you might be better off with a PCP kit.

There are plenty of really accurate single shot 2nd hand ones around and I`d guess your HW35 would be welcomed in PX.

There is your advice, NOT the Ox spring! (Sorry for shouting there but you obviously were not reading closely). Ox springa have a well earned reputation for knackering guns at a rate second to none. Do not buy an Ox, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring, do not buy an Ox spring....

Repeat until you get the message!

Too true sir, there are better springs around, contact Sandwell Field Sports next week when their air gun specialist is back in! I am awaiting a spring so my TX can be fettled back up, Air Arms are out of them and awaiting a supply, apparently Sandwell do have them but the specialist is on his holidays! The guys name is Tony!
