Glensman
Hi lads, I had soem Remmy BR small primers and bought some more. I now see that I have boxes marked 7 1/2 and boxes marked 6 1/2. What's the difference?
Andy H
7/1/2 are your bench rest primers 6/1/2 are std small rifle primers.

And what difference in performance should I expect? I take it the BR primers couldn't be classed as Magnum primers?
coyotemaster
It is my understanding that the bench rest primers have a thicker cup, making perforation less likely with a hot load.

Remington warns against using the 6 1/2s in .223 and I see you have one and assume you load for it. The primer cup on the Remington BR primer is .005 thicker than the 6 1/2. I would no doubt exchange the 6 1/2s for the 7 1/2BRs and no worries. The 6 1/2s are fine for the 22 Hornet but it isn't making the pressure the .223 is. The gun dealer I bought from is a reloading specialist who reloads himself. And knew I was buying for .223 Ah well, I'll shoot what i've loaded and return the rest
