apache
That question is daft. I have textbooks full of dermatology and just because it's a particular breed doesn't mean that they can all be treated the same. You need to follow a proper, logical diagnostic plan with your vet based on the presentation. A likely plan would be: 1. skin scrapes/tape strips to look for surface parasites, with possible flea treatment to rule them out, if no better then 2. skin biopsy, will show various types of allergy, deeper parasites, weird and wonderful autoimmune conditions and will often give you a diagnosis, but if no better 3. food trial, a specific low allergen diet is fed with a known source of protein and carbohydrate with NOTHING else for 6 weeks to see what improvement we get, if no better 4. allergy testing either via blood or intra-dermal skin tests, if a specific allergen is found then there are specific desensitisation vaccines that can be used. Skin problems can be an expensive battle, sometimes if they are bad at presentation they can need 6 weeks of treatment before we can even start on the diagnostics. There is no 'magic' food or ointment that will make it all go away. Only by following a logical path will you get the answers and sort the dog. Fatcatsplat
Nope - Beryl's peachy at the moment. We get her clipped fairly regular so you can get some access to her skin (!!) but that's about it.
Mrs Sweepy
It may have been a daft Question But it was asked out of concern for my own dog l am going along with what my vet has told me but sometimes it's surpising what little bit of help or info you can pick up from others who may have had the same problem and though I might not try anything they discuss it's always good to know. Thank you for taking the time too explain the options too me And as a vet you will know we only want what's best for are dogs no matter how silly it may sound xxxx Suzy Fat cat it's good too hear beryl doing well She all ready for this season ?
