Redgum
I have the 700 sps in 243, the sps stands for swifly puttin skip. That stock had little lugs on end of stock but stock was so flimsy that consistant accuracy was near impossible especially with a P8 stuck on the end. A hogue full alley stock and timney trigger sorted the accuracy problems but it would have probalbly been cheaper to buy (dare I say it) a Tika. highseas
Highseas, you say the barrel is floating? did you do that? when I had the rifle it had a small rise in the stock near to the end of it (barrel end) and the barrel rests on this.I e-mailed Remington about removing this and was advised not to,it could cause the problems you are having. Alan yes and no i had it floated by my smith and it was shooting drunk before it was floated. but it went from 4inch to 2inch after floating ive got a nice new stock en-rout any how, looks like ile be cutoming it sooner than i thort. ahh well ile have to get a new stalking gun
Underdog
The flimsey stock fore end can be stiffened with arrows! Slotting the webs and glueing in an ally or carbon arrow in (or similar) stiffens the fore end for cans and or free loating or even the contact/pressure pads The Tikka is good, no doubt about it but your 700 once sorted will be as good. The triggers are quite easy to do apart from time consuming. Mine took six hours and worth every minute of them U.
