ben0850
Evening all, Now be gentle as this is an unknown foray for me into the dark side of shooting 😷.  I've shot rifles for some time and only recently got into shotguns and pigeon shooting. The mrs shoots a 20 bore and regularly goes game shooting with the father inlaw.  I'd like your advice please on a clay trap to buy and use on the farm for practice / sport etc. Budget I'd say a couple of hundred quid?? (not sure if this is realistic so please point me in the right direction)  Your advice would be most appreciated!  Thanks Ben

Promatic ....absolutely brilliant ... with second to none backup ...( The choice of thieves ) so be careful who you buy from and where you store it. Salopian
For a couple of hundred quid you would be very lucky to buy an electric trap. You would probably be better off getting one of the single column ones from Promatic ,Laporte, Bowman or Acorn. I have heard good reports about the Bowman one, well constructed, reliable etc., Acorn is probably the cheapest, but very unreliable, seem to spend more time mending the Acorn than actually using it. Peathag
Are you looking for a manual or automatic trap for £200?  You could pick up a manual Bowman for around that money but you are unlikely to pick up an automatic trap for that. I have used both manual and automatic Bowman traps and had no problems at all, I also like Promatic traps. A Bowman or Promatic single stack automatic trap new will set you back about £600 all in. I would look at secondhand stuff on Ebay as there are some bargains and they often come with accessories which can be quite expensive to buy new. Incidently a little single stack automatic trap will be safer to operate than a manual trap and a person of any age can press a button also you can place an automatic trap down range in the danger zone whereas you can't always do that with a manul trap for obvious reasons.  Found this on Ebay among others but this is a little beauty complete with everything you need.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PROMATIC-CLAY-PIGEON-TRAP-COST-995-NEW-C-W-EXTRAS-/230701057157?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item35b6dac485 Edited November 17, 2011 by Peathag
