Northern Gunner
Can anyone offer any advice. I have an 05 Navara which had a new short engine fitted by Nissan 10,000 miles ago but it now feels like it has a fuel problem in 3rd and 4th gear. It is fine in 1st and 2nd but once I change to 3rd it feels like it is starving of fuel and again when in 4th. Once I get into 5th it runs as sweet as you like. I have changed the main fuel filter but apart from that I am not very mechanically minded.
the shooter
hi mate it sounds like the same thing i had two years ago. try pulling the wire connector off the gear box neutral switch then try it again. if it runs fine just change the gear box neutral switch(or not as i did just leave it off. but you will then lose your heat switch as well, not that you use it lol). hope that helps. Hi, Thanks for the tip about the neutral switch. I disconnected it today and now it is running spot on. I was close to putting it into the nissan dealership as no mechanic I asked could tell me why I was having the problems in 3rd and 4th gears so you have saved me a big bill!!! I even paid £13 to "ASK A Machanic" on the internet and he just spoke about 20 things to check and no mention of the root of the problem so once again many thanks mate. ME
Yep, I had that with my 2006 Terrano too. Must be a common Nissan fault. My mechanic replaced the gear stick position sensor and all hunky dory.

Once I was on a roll and got into 5th it was fine. Disconnected the neutral switch and now ok. There is two switches on top of the gearbox, one is for the reversing light and the other is the neutral switch. (If you turn ignition on and put in reverse your reverse light will go out if you disconnect the wrong one) Hope you manage ok mate.
