reloading for blazer

Recommended Posts

Check your terminology, you are confusing headspace with Cartridge Overall Length.

Personally, on a blaser you need to full length size your cases for SAAMMI spec headspace as there is no extractor cam to speak of, as for COL, I stick to factory length in hunting rifles, it just saves hassle. You will now hear 101 people talk to you endlessly about loading ammo 3 thou' off the lands or some such figure that is probably less accurate than the manufacturing tolerances on the bullets themselves. If you are a reloading newbie, follow the instructions in a quality reloading manual such as Hornady or Nosler for example.

Many thanks for your help. yes i am very green when it comes to reloading bullets, thats why i need all the help i can get. thx again

Many people tell us that the bullet must be 2 thous off of the lands or accuracy will suffer... i think thats probably true enough. But, you have to look at degrees of accuracy in this. Most factory rifles will shoot less than moa with most factory ammunition. The really important thing in a stalking rifle... i think, is that you have a good degree of accuracy and faultless feeding and reliability.

Some years ago i loaded some really really accurate 30-06 rounds up. I was out stalking - in company - when one of the long rounds was chambered then removed leaving bullet stuck in lands. Very embarrassing. end of outing. so i then went home and ran them all back through the press and took them back to book length. There was no discernable loss of accuracy.

I think it important that enough of the bullet shank is in the neck to ensure adequate tension. I tend to use heavier bullets now. They are longer. It is more important that the round fits the magazine than you gain .25moa.

All rifles are different. It is a case of finding what yours likes.

Many thx for the replies. Humberducker you are talking a lot of sense to me.

I am looking to get the best out of the blazer not so much for stalking but for a rifle competition i take part in every year. So any help would be appreciated.

I dont get a hell of a lot of time for sitting down developing a special load.

So any sound advice is very welcome

Many Thx
