Importing shotguns from Europe?

From the EU, I believe you need an Import Licence, which you would get from the DTI.

They would have all the other procedural information.

As I have mentioned before, a friend has purchased a couple of shotguns from the EU and I believe the "shop" he brought them from sorted out all the paperwork.

He had only to show his SC when he collected them (from a nominated UK Gun Shop).

Like most things , I suspect the Spanish/Italian, etc., export precedure, is far simpler than the UK import procedure.

Your FO may also be able to help.

So to permanently import a firearm requires the issue of an import licence from the department of trade and industry.

Department of Trade & Industry

Import Licensing Branch

Queensway House

West Precinct

Billingham

TS23 2NF

tel: 01642 364351

fax: 01642 364269

So looks like its not feasible.

Thanks bertie. I think as long as the gun we have the correct licence for it then its alright but its the paper trail that will be the nightmare I guess.

I was thinking if it was the dealer that exports it then maybe it doesnt require us to have the licence because it would be the RFdealership here importing it and dont they normally have import licences? Maybe it would be a different matter if we bought straight from the factory because then it would be for commercial gain thus requiring an import licence but I'm just hazarding a guess.

I recently had to renew my S.G.C, and among the paperwork I was sent were procedure details on the purchase and import of shotguns from E.U countries. Sadly they have been "filed", but I am sure that it is a simple enough thing to do. Don't quote me on this, but I am fairly certain that all it entails is notifying your local Licensing Authority, giving them a few days notice. Contact your local F.O or B.A.S.C.
