So is this different to turning veg oil into biodiesel?

The problem with veg oil is it has a higher viscosity and ignition point than derv or proper bio derv so in the cold it sometimes wont start this was my problem as my glow plugs were all kaput and its freezing here, to turn it into proper bio you have to use electricity and mix it with other ingredients like old motor oil and it does something to the compounds……no idea about the real dif though

New glowplugs all round means the car now starts, bio would make it easier but still not as good as a high sulphur derv from the states………stupid eco warriors over here though means we can't get the good stuff

By mixing (in the tank) Veg oil and fossil derv you get a blend that most older engines will run, to process veg oil into Bio diesel takes more work and requires methanol (controlled solvent) and Sodium Hydroxide

A small processor unit liek this http://www.yorkshiregreenfuels.co.uk/biodiesel.asp if you have a ready supply of used oil (you do have to declare and pay duty on it if used in road legal vehicles IIRC)

Dr Evil if you want to run a mix through the winter then get a fuel pre heater fitted or by january i recon you'll be back in the garage for a fuel pump! like this http://www.diesel-therm.com/diesel-therm.htm or http://www.maesco.com/products/racor/r_dfh_intro/r_dfh_intro.html
