jacksdad
How much for the Fronty? I sold my 94 Sport to get the Trooper, wish I'd kept it now......No airbags, sunroof, aircon, power seats, and other chite that goes wrong, not bad on fuel, no rust at all: how many 18 year old lawn rovers can say that? The Trooper has broke down AGAIN and I want a good off roader back!

jacksdad
The fronty I had was actually 17 years old when I sold it and the thing was totally rust free, they are galvanised from new, so are made to last.....how many 18 year old discos are still on the road: they rust to bits at 14 years! Dr_evil
waxoyl was invented for that reason
jacksdad
I'm thinking of Waxoiling my Trooper as its already covered in rust underneath, more unsightly than anything at the moment but I doubt it will last long! Will it cure the rust inside all the box sections etc. and does 1 going over last for good?
Dr_evil
Gotta do it once a year but it kills rust and prevents more forming

The Trooper has broke down AGAIN and I want a good off roader back! Its a 96 n reg sport apache,2.0 ltr, comes with all the extras as a ltd edition,am looking at least £800 as its in such good condition, low miles and extensive service history,it was the best one i could find when i bought it and i then had everything repaired, since then (2 years) its been faultless motoring.Pic in 'upload your 4x4 thread',1st page 3rd on in. Had a look round the disco today, its a 97 p reg,2.5 tdi 300,67k,2 owners, service history, tax and test till may 2012,she said her son thinks its worth £2500 I t drives like a dream,if a little sluggish and probs need a good thrash up the motor way to give it a good clear out,all the interior is good, although it has a major sunroof leak, which i suspect is the drain channels blocked so means all the lining out and new sunroof seals/channel pipes etc. The tailgate is seized closed, could squirt oil through oval badge, but am thinking it needs to be stripped out and freed off and greased. It has an oil leak from rocker cover, gasket. It has rust on paseengers rear door just below window and on both the front inner arches where a self tapping screw has rusted on the back of the arch ! Other than the above,i think i would replace timing belt if no service evidence of it being done. So,with all the above i am thinking that this motor even with its low miles is only worth a max of £1500/1700 given that it is going to need work to make it into a good one, what do you think. I'm thinking of doing mine myself or getting it done by a 4x4 garage if the cost outweighs the time/ballache of cleaning up.

Depends if you have the tools too Best way to do it is on a warm summers day or in a heated garage, give the chassis a blast out with an air gun to try and clear any **** out After that about 2-3 hours I'd say using a compressor and the gun
