Sco77w
Ive just got back from having the pups tails and dew claws done, I took Teal with me and asked for the pups docking to the same length as her (I think shes somewhere between a third and half) Do pups tails grow at the same rate as the rest of the dog? if so I think they could be a bit longer than hers, not that this is a problem, we all know every Springer needs a rudder. All 4 pups are doing fine and the Mrs. is adamant we're keeping 2 and she's even named all 4. I knew this would happen.

DreadedFlapper
Please forgive my ignorance. I do know that they dock tails at various lenghs but the main reason for docking is to reduce damage to the tail. So if your going to dock surely is it better to go shorter, or not? Sco77w
Just a quick update. The pups are a week old now and I can't believe how quick they are growing, one has started holding his belly off the floor while succling (just his back legs lifting his bum up) a friend of a friend who knows my bitch insisted on coming to see them last Friday with the intention of picking one. No matter how much I tried to put them off (their eyes and ears are even open yet) but they came and chose one (a dog as they already have another springer dog) he now has a name and it is Ralph. Sco77w
Well the pups are 7 weeks old now and all have new homes to go to. Its been strange watching them grow, if I didn't know different I wouldn't have thought they were from the same litter. There's a dog and a bitch with quite a lot of liver colour on them and a dog and a bitch with lots of white (the bitch's body is all white except for a dot of brown at the base of her tail) The ones that have the more liver markings are a lot slimer and have thin tails with the whiter ones being a bit chunkey and have tails twice as thick. Anyway we've decided to keep the bitch that is almost all white, she is a bit calmer than the other bitch that looks like she could be a bit of a hand-full. I'll post some updated photos tomorrow when my camera has charged up but in the meentime what do you all suggest for names for her, she's been know as Dot or Dotty but we don't think that will be what we call her. Sco77w
The one on the right of the first photo is the one we're keeping. A bit of a suprise really as we put our bitch with a dog that has lots of liver markings hoping the pups would throw a lot of liver colouring too. She is almost all white apart from her head and a dot on her rump. She was called Dotty (or Dot ) from day one but I'm not sure about keeping it at that. The big dog is called Ralph by his new owner who already have a year old springer dog called Merlin, the other bitch may be getting called Bracken and the other dog has been named Rolo by the kids at his new home, he has 2 labs to grow up with (1 black and 1 chocolate). eccles
That's one thing about breeding gundogs you ain't sure what arrives. Put black lab to black dog had yellows as well.Put liver bitch to liver dog had some B+W.Put black B cocker to D black B+W,-Black.-L+w.It's all in the gene's.
