mrfoxbuster
went to open my cabinet the other morning, and the damned thing would just not open, talk about p#/!%d off, I still can't open it, theres no movement whatsoever in the key, the key doesn't look damaged in any way.phoned brattonsound, nobody in office until the 3rd jan, has anybody else had the same problem, any solutions? Also any locksmiths out there? Would a locksmith be able to get into it?
njc110381
Mine did that to me once. A good shove on the door whilst tapping it gently with a rubber mallet at the lock side vibrated whatever the problem was into letting me in. May be worth a try? -Mongrel-
Mine jammed up when one of the stocks moved up tight against the back of the lock, pushing very hard against the key (into the lock) then twisting it got it moving. Worth a go.
njc110381
When that happens, try putting your foot against the bottom of the door and giving it a shove - mine does it a lot because I've got too much stuff in it!
Gimlet
Mine did that and nothing would get the key to turn. Tried the spare and it worked perfectly. I reported it to Brattonsound and they sent me a new lock and set of keys free of charge by return of post. If you can get the spare to open it, check the bolts are throwing properly and if not take the backing plate off the door and check the linkages, which are pretty agricultural. Either way report it to Brattonsound soon as you can, they're very helpful.
archiebald
my cabinet did this once a while ago and it came free when i kept pressure on the key and kept hitting it with the palm of my hand, it took a while to open but it hasnt happened since. Bradders
Not being funny but my Brattonsound safe has a key that can which only operates one way up. Have you tried both ways if its reversable.....
bedwards1966
I too have a Brattonsound and have found there is only one way the key will work, though you probably know this. I would check that the door doesn't feel solid, i.e it should swing slightly on the hinges if you push/pull it, just a small amount but enough to confirm nothing is trapped or wedged against it inside, therefore putting pressure on the locking bars and stopping the key turning. I'd spray some WD40 or similar onto the lock when you try it, it may do some good. And as said, hit the cabinet as you try to turn the key. Assuming you manage to get in, I'd remove the panel off the back of the door (not a big job) and look at the lock to see if there is anything obvious wrong, and to lightly oil the mechanism.
