shoot57
hi, just bought an r10 fac and notice that the barrel is longer than the sub 12fps model [not that i mind], some years ago i also owned a rapid 7 fac and it also had the same longer barrel than the standard, i notice on lots of forums that it is very common to have air rifles customised which includes shortening the barrel length, question is what is the reason for this?, what do you gain or lose?, after all the makers of fac air rifles must have a reason for choosing the final length
Hamster
FAC pneumatics need longer barrels to harness the higher MV needed to reach 28 ft lbs + whilst still having a reasonable shot count per charge. Barrel shortening can often enhance looks and handling but not too common on precharged for the above reason although spring powered is very different. Dexterboyz
the longer the barrel the more more time the pellet has to speed up as it travels down the length with the air behind it, so the more length the more power but then you have to consider the practicality any weight of moving the rifle about.
