verminator
I went out rabbiting last month with my .20 fac rapid, lost got into the field and saw a decent sized buck. Lined up on the back of its head and smack...the rabit didnt move. I though thats odd and tryed again..still nothing. On taking my head off the cheek piec and looking at the action, i realised that i had not put the mag in...Idiot. thing is, the bunny stayed there long enough for me to slip in the mag and let him av it. Anyone else done such a thing? Will
Davrian
First bunny this year! I laid up in my favourite hole in the hedge between my land and my neighbours, half hour passed the sun was going down, the birds singing, a field mouse runs along the blackthorn to my right within reach! & a pheasant wondered past within about 5 yards (that's when you know you're still!) (the colours on a live male pheasant are amazing, don't look the same hung at the back door!) anyway all very pleasant but still waiting for a bunny, then he appears bounds out of the hedge to my far right, I was unable to swing the rifle far enough round to sight him up so just laid still thinking he may come across or a mate may pop out. No more bunnies and the one I seen had bounced out of view, then as I laid patient waiting he hopped across in front of me! he'd followed the line of the hedge round and decided he needed to sit about 6-7 yards in front of me! I slowly moved my cheek on to the stock, blast! the scope was set on 9x and the field at 7 yards was a green blur! slowly wound the scope back to 3x the bunny none the wiser, then I had to cock the rifle! ....... CLUNK!..... bunnies ears pricked up, then released the safety ........... CLICK! ....... he sits up and starts to look about ........ WHACK! It's amazing the amount of fumbling about you can get away with before they leg it! The usual one is squeezing a dead trigger then having to release the safety though. SNAKEBITE
Oh yes, had a couple like that. Last night I was stalking a rabbit and it clocked me, I laid down with the bi-pod as it was a longish shot and I needed the extra stability only to find the lay of the land blocked the shot. So fumbling around I stood back up and the rabbit was still there, so I sat back down (classic f.t. stance from the manual ) Lined it up and got a clean shot. Another time and it would have scarpered as soon as it clocked me! Still that is what makes tis all fun!
Axe
I did it once with my PCP and never made the mistake again up until just recently. I was out with the rimmy and perchanced across a Fox, called him in to 45yards where he propmtly stood still, lined it up and pulled the trigger only to hear 'click'! Although I had put the magazine in, I had done so with the bolt closed and had forgotten to actually through the bolt to load and cock the rifle! Luckily for me, the fox didnt hear the 'click' and so I managed to action the rifle and take the shot.
dr_nick
Was out last night, the bunny population has aken a bit of a beating of late (me and a huge buzzard) but I got a large Doe bang on 30yrds. Very clean kill, seeing as the pellet went straight through her brain and out the other side. I had to stalk along the hedge using the sounf of traffic to dull the sound of my heavy footed size 10's and shoot standing up leaning against a fence post. Not the easiest of shots but very satisfying.
