Glenshooter
My lad has progressed in his clay shooting from a 20b to a Browning 525 action 12b with 28" barrels which he's now had for 3 years. He shoots well with it. However, a few months ago, some instructor 'mentioned' to him during a round that he'd be better/smoother with a longer set of barrels. While this temporarily reduced confidence in his gun, he has managed to work through it and still performs pretty well. However, he shot a round of sporting clays over Christmas with a friend's 32" Miroku and got an excellent score on fast sporting targets - the highest score of the day for both him and among anyone in the small club. He's only 5ft 9", thin as a rake and has been shooting clays for 5 yrs. IF he were to get a new gun, would you experienced guys think that 32" is too big a jump from his current 28"? I've no clue as I don't shoot shotgun. Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to make an expensive mistake!
poontang
Sounds like you've answered your own question there GS. He got on well with your friends 32" gun over Christmas so it would only be a matter of time before he got used to 32" barrels. I wouldn't think his size would hinder him in any way. It would only be a matter of getting used to the different handling characteristics of a longer barrelled gun. Oh, and it'll put him 4" closer to the target
killer_pigeon
beware - he will have an extra 8 inches of barel to clean on a 32" !
EdSolomons
If it suits his style and he is happy to change then do so. Longer barrels are not so much to do with build as shooting style. If the longer ones suit then go for it. If it were me I'd get him to use the 32" mirook on a few separate occasions as one good score doesn't proove anything. 3 or 4 in a row do. Glenshooter
beware - he will have an extra 8 inches of barel to clean on a 32" ! Actually, it's me who does the cleaning!!! Thanks both for your replies so far! If it were me I'd get him to use the 32" mirook on a few separate occasions as one good score doesn't proove anything. 3 or 4 in a row do. Excellent point, thanks.
