Guest cookoff013
these skeeters are not the greatest when pattern and performance is requires. they sound like a great product but in reality, not worth much. my reason being, reguarding the different pressures involved with the different cartridges. 12-.410 can be a nightmare, as the 410 needs alot of pressure to get it working right. those slow powders need pressure to get the load going. having an already anemic load firing in a skeeter is a recipe for disaster, it can cause a wad blockage. let alone patterns could be irregular, or non existent. the only skeeters i`d use are the full length ones with choke interchange. the only ones i`ve heard are any good are the 20-28gauge. they are so close anyway. makes the reasoning hard to justify. the alternates to 21g @ 1400fps are http://www.hullcartridge.co.uk/products/competition/subsonic.cfm http://www.gamebore.com/page.php?id1=2&id2=2 http://www.lyalvaleexpress.com/ql-quiet-light-fibre-24-grams - 24gram version. should be sweet as. when i make my loads, i stick to a slow speed, 1100fps is about the most i`d load for session shooting. i just change the shotsize to whatever, i prefer to go to 5s for game than trying to push for the extra 400fps. that blows the pattern. (i use good lead too/ not soft.) not only that, shooting just 1 shotsize more, is way better than pushing the lead at the magical 1600fps that every manufacturer is telling us we need. dont get me wrong, there are lighter loads, 3/4oz subsonics in a 20gauge, but its not without its issues, that sometimes wont reset a innertia trigger. if i wanted low recoil loads for clays, 20gauge 21g subs. they cant be beat. but thats a 20gauge. dan-250
+1 for the comp x, great little carts, even my sister shoots them. Used to have Eley first 21gram but they was really dirty. You can pick the 21g comp x up for about £145/1000 for fibre too. That's a third off 20g prices. Sco77w
If the weight of the 12 gauge gun isn't a problem I can reccomend the 21g comp x, My daughter who was 14 when she had her first try of shooting used them. they are soft shooting and seem to pattern well. Also lots cheaper than anything you can buy in 20g. worth trying a box or 2 before anything else.
