Hector Vector
Alkanet root is traditionally used to colour stocks. It gives a nice reddish colour but does take a bit of work. I've done a few stocks with it and have been pleased with the finish. I get mine from T.W. Chambers ("Root Stain"). The pic attached is of a Franchi Alliance I picked up very cheaply at auction as a "project" gun. The wood on this gun isn't best quality to start with and looked quite horrible but hasn't come up too bad with a bit of work. I've done a couple of AYA side by sides and they look really good but both had better quality wood to start with. Time and patience is the key to a good result but don't forget however hard you rub you can't put a shine on a ****! nabbers
Don't forget the colour of hardwood changes with oil or lacquer. Wet a small area of the wood to see what colour it will be when finished.
