Al69ec
what is 1530 kg per square cm converted to in tons per square inch? This would help with my max load cartridge problem.

Al69ec
So my gun is only proofed for 1.6 tons? 900 kg is 3 1/4 tons
wymberley
9.715051474 assuming long (proper) tons of 2240 pounds.
wymberley
Be careful. Do not disregard the possible weight of the barrel (Have we not seen this figure before today or am I mistaken). Do not confuse working pressure with proof pressure as that will get you into real bother.

KG1. 530 stamped on barrel if that helps?
wymberley
31/4 tons/sq" is the working pressure - the British system of old. 900kg/sqcm is a proof pressure - the European system and equates to 5.7ish tons/sq" which one would expect as a proof pressure for a 31/4 working pressure. Do not believe anything you read on here; go to your RFD or gunsmith.
wymberley
The proofing of guns particularly when you take into account the international market has always been in a state of flux, but with CIP, etc, it's now starting to make sense. However many older but still perfectly sericeable guns can have a multitude of marks. Some, like KG 1530 stamped on the barrel flats and particularly if from Italy, relate to the weight of the barrel/s. This can be checked on the kitchen scales BUT is not to be considered definitive. wymberley
how do I differentiate the 2? Working pressure from proof pressure? KG1. 530 stamped on barrel if that helps? In short, it's a nightmare. Basically, working pressure is in tons and is/was the British system. Continental guns were stamped with a proof pressure Your KG1. 530 is quite possibly KG 1.530 - a weight of one point five... kilograms. Just to give you an idea, my gun is proofed 11/8oz. Andy H
KG1.530 is the weight of your barrel set , If it was pressure it would equate to 1500 bar ,well over magnum proof pressures,Service or working pressure is approximately 75% or less of proof pressure , Use this to convert pressures http://www.unitconversion.org/unit_converter/pressure.html. Have a read of this as well http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3428 Edited March 1, 2012 by Andy H
