THE GRIFF
After lots of thought I have now decided to get a pup. I am wanting this dog for retrieving pigeons and rabbits all year round and wildfowling during the season. My uncle has a really good line of gun dogs going back from my grandads dogs, one of which has just been lined last month. This gives me until the end of May to get prepared for pup and do lots of research into starting the dog off in the correct way with regards training. The dog will be a lab and I am going to get a bitch hopefully. Can anyone recomend any DVD's that shows different training sessions from the early stages to a trained dog. This will be my first gun dog and I want to get it right first time and have the dog not having bad habits from the start. Realistically at what age will the dog start to retrieve to the gun if the work is put in from the start?

There is no answer to age to start, its ready when its ready- rush it at your peril, things in the field will generally make it worse not better than it performed on the training fields. Forget the 2012/2013 season though i feel. DVD's ? why not get a book (far more information) try PRA Moxon his works are rarely if ever improved upon IMO
