Anthony
I went out the other day to a wood in Wiltshire where I had a great days roost shooting and for my first ever roost shoot I bagged 16 and they just kept coming in. I was wandering how you hide yourself, do you use a cammo suit or build a hide and what do you find most effective. I also managed to shoot a crow and magpie using a crow call, has anyone else had any success with calls?
CrapShot
I am no expert on this subject as i only do a small amount roost shooting. What you have to remember is you are standing in a dark wood with daylight going so you are already quite well hidden. When i go roost shooting i just wear my barbour, cap, and gloves and just lean on a big tree and as long as you don't look straight up at the birds as they are coming in they shouldn't see you as i have had birds land above my head and i take my yellow lab with me everywhere. .223
i don't bother with a hide just wear my realtree coat and green combat trousers, a definate must for roost shooting though has got to be a face veil and gloves. the main secret to not being spotted is to just stay dead still till the very last moment. as for calls i never bother when roost shooting but i regulary use crow calls when deacoying with great effect. everygoodnamewastaken
When i go roost shooting for crows, i just put on my barbor and an old pair of jeans. I only descovered that they wouldnt shy away when out doing my reconisis one night
dogsnuts
I AGREE WITH .223 A FACE VAIL IS MORE IMPORTANT, ANY DARK OR GREEN CLOTHING
