alison391
Hi all I have just had some rather alarming news  , i have been insured for my buildings and contents with L & G for the past 5 years, i have all our guns ect covered and have away from the home cover as guns would not be covered if i didnt. I bought my hubby a new gun and needed to up the specified items cover as this gun is more expencive than his old one, so one would asume that this would be quite an easy thing to do, i contacted my insurance company who were more than happy to deal with it taking from me more of my cash and a rather hefty admin fee sent me a letter to confirm the changes and i assumed that this was the end of the matter. OH NO. 2 weeks later i get a letter from them changing the terms and conditions of my insurance, one of these being that when the guns and amo are away from the home the should be kept in a secure cabinet, i asked them to clarify this and they said in a locked safe like at home. I did ask were i was supposed to bolt a safe in a tent when away camping but they couldnt answer that one, i said not all hotels have the luxury of gun cabinets in the rooms either but they still insist on it, they also said that cartriges have to be in a locked metal container (this is not a legal requirement) when i questioned it i was told well put the cartriges and amo in with the guns, i said so now you are telling me to break the law as well, i was told well either comply or you wont be insured, i have made severel enquiries with other insurers who think that my insurers have lost the plot, they all state that as long as the guns ect are kept within the requirements of the law then nothing further is required, i am now going to take my business elswere. From what i can make of all this they are making it up as they go along either because they are anti guns or maybe they make that much money they can aford not to have our business. alison391
Catamong
Alison, It's a bit like car insurance, every time you renew your policy, (even if you've been claims free), you get a bit more small print from your insurers which further reduces your benefits under the policy. All insurers rely on the fact that most policyholders: a) - Never bother to read the amendments, and therefore don't realise that their level of cover is reduced, so in the event of a genuine claim, its GOTCHA..!! from the insurers. - Don't understand the effect of the changes, because they are written in legal gobbledegook..!! c) - Don't bother to shop around at renewal time and therefore end up paying well over the odds for ever reducing levels of cover. You're doing the right thing by shopping around. Cat.
