Livefast123
If I was to buy a secondhand .22 SAK moderator that had come from an airgun how would I stand getting it onto my FAC .22LR. Would I have to put the silencer on my ticket and how would I do that, if it has no identifying marks etc. Also do I need to have it proofed? bedwards1966
I think a RFD could put it on (you can't), however I don't know if it would need proofing. I think though that you'd be far better just buying one, I think you can buy a new mod on ticket for around £35 - 40, much less hassle. station
My understanding is that you would just apply for a variation to your FAC to include the sound moderator. You can then use the Sak one or buy another and then choose the one you want to use. As you state the Sak mod (and others) does not have a serial number so you don't actually list the individual mod on your FAC. And as for proofing then no is the answer. Hope this helps or someone comes along to correct me - which also helps me. ATB Edited March 28, 2012 by station
Livefast123
Thanks, I already have a slot on my FAC so it looks like i'll have to get my local friendly RFD to put in on my cert for me. DaveK
Why not just enter it onto your ticket as given by yourself and inform the licensing department that you now have one?

So on you FAC you have .22 Bolt Action (or self loading or underlever) plus sound moderator ? If yes, then you don't need to tell or do anything - other than start using it
Livefast123
Yep, I have a slot for .22RF and a slot for .22RF Moderator. I was under the impression that as the moderator is classed as a 'firearm' then it had to be entered on your FAC and your not allowed to write on your own ticket? My licence states + Mod but mine are not listed seperately? Let see what other replies you get to this. ATB
Livefast123
Indeed, various police forces seem to do it differently and that doesn't make it easy!! I think ill give my FEO a ring and see his point of view is.
cooter
Why not just enter it onto your ticket as given by yourself and inform the licensing department that you now have one? +1. I have done exactly this in the last two years.
Dekers
So on you FAC you have .22 Bolt Action (or self loading or underlever) plus sound moderator ? If yes, then you don't need to tell or do anything - other than start using it If he has a slot for a moderator he will have to advise his region he has acquired one, in just the same way he has to advise his region if he acquires a rifle! Why not just enter it onto your ticket as given by yourself and inform the licensing department that you now have one? +1. I have done exactly this in the last two years. I too have bought several off FAC mods and done this!...and as someone else said, you don't need it proofed either
Livefast123
Thanks guys, I've just phoned my local firearms department......the first lady couldn't seem to grasp the concept of buying an secondhand off FAC mod and putting it on a FAC rifle and kept telling me that the selling RFD has to fill it in when I kept stating it was a private sale.......my FEO didnt want to stick his neck out and told me to contact the managers at the office! I'll just stick to the above advice and I've dropped them an email to cover my rear.
