Rough night on the Foxes

What a night I had last night. Me and a friend went out to have a go at the Foxes on a local Sheep farm. The Lambing is well under way now and there are quite a few starting to show their faces about the place. Last night was no exception, in fact one of them was so set on going about his business he didn't even look in my direction as I took up position to take the shot! I bowled him over at 80 yards and the night looked like it was going to go well.

We spotted another set of eyes but they were the other side of a stock fence and my shot line was pretty much in line with the fence. I couldn't take it. Rather than sit around I decided to move but when I got to his side of the fence the clever sod had swapped sides - he would have been perfect for a shot if I hadn't have moved! By the time I went back he'd gone.

We had to head back to the truck to change the battery but stopped part way along to have a last look. I was too busy looking at all the eyes to try to spot a Fox amongst the Sheep that I didn't notice a large rut in the gateway.... And guess what silly ****** slipped and fell on his rifle?....

I put a big dent in the top turret cap. Luckily no damage that I can see to the body of the scope or the rifle but it was a hell of a knock so I had to check zero - about 3" left and an inch high at 50 yards! I managed to get it dialled back to an acceptable point and decided that any shot within 100ish yards would be a killer, so carried on. Of course after the zeroing shots I didn't see anything and decided to call it a night.

We got one Fox and the farmer text me today to say thanks. I can't help but think that I could have got a couple more if I hadn't have had a bad run of luck but at the same time it could have been worse! Anyone know where I can get a new turret cap for an MTC Mamba Lite?

If I was travelling far I probably would too. Trouble is if you take two guns you have to store one of them safely while you're out with the other. It's not worth the bother or risk if you're only 30 minutes from home.

I'm off out again in a bit - hopefully I'll have more luck tonight!

cant run a 4x4 around the ewe's it can cause problems with ewe's birthing. all around the farmhouse with fields all cut into 100 meter fenced blocks. the only way is to walk. these foxes bolt on the slightest noise and dont stand still for a motor. they even bolt with a call so its just a case of sit and wait.
