Axe
I've been reading up on the various different results people are getting whilst chrono' testing thier rifles (specifically .17HMR). I was amazed to find how the numbers vary from report to report and particularly the manufacturers published results. Now I don't have a chronograpgh but have just found out my local smith has just got one and will gladly test my rifle free of charge. Good news as they are just up the road. But I was just wondering how many of us bother to chrono factory rounds, in particular rimfire rounds, as I imagine these are the most affected by powder weights. Do most of you have your own chrono' or do you use your local smith?
Guest jonrms
I borrowed mine from a club member at my local rifle club. I will be buying one as I think we should have them... ie even if you own a air gun... we should always ensure that we are 1) (the obvious one) not going over the legal limmit.... 2) ensuring we have enough power to take down our prey if shooting in the field.... so it swings both ways... we need them... one way or another..... regular checks on your rifle.. rimmy or not are vital. Axe
Wini's seem fine but the Eley's are way off.
crieffy
Just had my 17HMR tested on my RFD's chrony.. CZ Varmint 16" barrel with Remington V-max ammo was giving an average of 2460fps at 5 feet from the muzzle. Weather was complete **** so we're going to give it a go with some more brands and a few more shots later in the week. Unfortunately we can't get Hornady V-Max stuff up here - I'd have been really interested to know how it compared as I've read that it's supposed to be hotter than the rest?? Cheers, John
hawkeye
Wini's seem fine but the Eley's are way off. Yes i was surprised the difference between the 2 but my Anshutz preffers the ELEY'S to the winchesters gives better grouping. And to be honest mainly use the HMR only take the .22 out now and then.
