I used to use them but found they went straight through most rabbits with minimal damage and had a few runners which had to be finished off with another shot. I also had more ricochets with them too, where the V-Max stuff never seems to ricochet (think I've had about 6 out of 3000 rounds)

I did a thread here with a pic of a 20gr bullet I recovered >> thread

Cheers,

John

P.S. They will drop approx an extra 1.5" at 100 yards compared to the 17gr ammo.

Ah right, some interesting reading cheers crieffy. See i thought that as they are hollowpoint they would put all their energy into killing the animal as air rifle pellets do which are hollowpoint. They were going to be mainly for close range foxes on the off chance that i saw them, i can imagine that they need more hold over as they are certainly bigger tips, ill give em ago later on next week n see how they size up, ive only got 30 odd remmingtion v-max left.

Also are they as effected by wind as much as the v-max?

Cheers

Alex

I bought 100 of the cci this morning. I have been using them over the past few weeks on rabbits. If have had used the vmax then maybe I wouldn't have had a small explosive in my pocket

The vmax do a hell of a lot of damage to the rabbits, legs hanging off, intestines popping out from the spine, rib cages smashed in bits

Stick with the gamepoint for less damage, oh and as crieffy said they drop 1.5" over 100yards

Whoops  ;):good:

Certainly seen that the 17grn remmingtions ive had mashes up rabbits where ever they are hit, only had my gun for 4 days and already seen front legs off, intestines out, chins off etc, not pleasant when i have to gut them for the ferrets.

Glad i havent wasted my money, was worrying abit before hand.

CCI do a 17gr hollow point, though I can't remember what they call it. I've read that it's about the same as V-max as far as damage goes.

See if you can find any Sellier & Bellot V-max ammo. Cheap, and as good as the Hornady/Federal/Remington stuff....

Trouble is the closest gun shop to me is about 40 mins away, so costs a fair bit in petrol as im a student im always skint. And the shop just too secs down the road only sells the cci 20grn gamepoint for £10 per 50, and wont get in 17grn for some stupid reason, so if the cci's work unless i come into some money ill be stuck on them.

I rate these rounds now ive fired off a few and shot 4 rabbits with them, i even feel that these bullets are better than the 17grn v max ones as they are more accurate and tend not to blow a hole the size of a gold ball through them, i think out of the 4 rabbits i shot 3 of them were in the head and 1 chest.

I've had my 0.17 Anschutz for about a month and am only just beginning to get used to it.

Accuracy is about 0.75" at 100 yards using Hornady 17g V Max, but I am improving slowly. Consistency of grip seems to be a major factor.

I only shoot rabbits with head shots, and have done this ever since I started shooting rabbits more years ago than I care to remember.

The 17g V Max make a very impressive mess of a rabbits head, and the knock down power is all I ever wanted. The main problem of course is that if you shoot a rabbit between the eye and ear the damage can extend way down to the neck, which is annoying.

I feel that the ideal round may be a 20g V Max, as the slightly lower velocity may result in less fragmentation. However, has anyone come across any yet?

Wish I could come across some S&B's to try, but I have yet to find a gunshop within 50 miles that sells them
