markyboy
We have a hard wood strip that has potential to be s great pheasant drive. It's very bare and we need cover to keep it warmer and hold birds . Can't we plant anything ? Old bits of tin and brashing was talked about but we would like some growth and warmth. Any ideas? MattSoanes
As a quick fix i would suggest some bales on the prevailing wind side, these will be better than tin. As for planting some cover maybe Rhodydendrans ( spelling!!)
zab10
bales are a good idea as if you get another hard winter they can be burst open and grain scattered through it so the birds can scratch for it in the frost . underplant with lonicera or if you have pines cut some down and pile it up through the woods . a bit late for planting now though as the bare root season is finished and plants would have to be potted and much more expensive . could you not plant some cover crops on the edge of the woods ?
