MG6065
Hi, i'm in the process of filling out my FAC application. I've decided to ask for a .17HMR and a .22lr both with sound mods. I plan on getting the 22 first and sticking with that for a while but i don't want the hassle or cost of a variation 12-18 months sown the line... how many bullets shall i ask to keep and buy? i've been advised 400/600 but im thinking 200/400 as i dont need loads as i live so close to Sportsman gun centre so really no problem in popping in and getting some, will they be happy with this and shall i apply for the same ammounts of both calibre? thanks for your help! Either quantity sounds reasonable, but it depends where you live - some forces get arsey about it, others don't. Put in for 400/600 and if they suggest reducing it a little, nowt lost. Keep a record of what you use, and if you can prove you're using more, ask for a free variation to up it later on. Luckyshot
I would go for buy 500 hold 600 especially for the 22 as you can then buy your bullets per brick of 500 so they will all be from the same batch.
The Jackson
I would go for buy 500 hold 600 especially for the 22 as you can then buy your bullets per brick of 500 so they will all be from the same batch. As lucky shot put, 500 to purchase and 600 to hold on both guns. Unless your target shootings, then I'd up it to 1000 purchase 1200 hold
bedwards1966
I'd put down to buy 500, keep 600 as a minimum. .22 is best bought in 'bricks' of 500. It does no harm in asking for more (such as buy 1000, keep 1200 for the .22), it depends on the force you are with - the worst that will happen if you ask for too much is they'll reduce it to what they're happy with. MG6065
thanks fellas, what is the cost of 500 subsonic 22 bullets? buying in a brick of 500? also what is the price of 500 17's? cheers
bedwards1966
Last time I bought some Winchester subsonic 40g hollow points they cost £40 for 500 (8 pence each). I'm not sure on .17HMR, I think it usually works out at about 20 - 25p per round.

If you are using guns for vermin control then as others have said go for 500 to buy 600 hold so you can get blocks of the same batch. Whilst police don't see it as any goood reason you can also sometimes get a discount for 500 at a time. If you are planning on target shooting then you should think about a lot more of .22lr (for the same reason re batch + you get through a lot more!). For target shooting as a member of a club, 2000 and 2500 wouldn't be too many to ask for but whether you got that would depend on your Constabulary and other factors. apache
thanks fellas, what is the cost of 500 subsonic 22 bullets? buying in a brick of 500? also what is the price of 500 17's? cheers I am using Remington Subs that I got on a gamefair special of £7/100 so 500 cost me £45 (usually ~£9/100). The same gamefair had the .17HMR @ £20/100 and sadly I was almost up to my allowance because I could only get a couple of boxes :(. My RFD charges £25/100 so 500 would cost £125. See why I love the .22!
Livefast123
Cheapest i've seen a brick of 500 was £18.95 for Remington Thunderbolt at John Knibbs but he didn't have any when I popped in on my travels (taking Mrs to STEPS concert :yp:) so had to settle for Aguila at £25. I'm lucky my rifle seems to like cheap plinking rounds I had my FAC for vermin control and then joined a target club and I have 500 buy / 600 hold. This is nowhere near enough if like me you dont live that close to a cheap gun shop and target shoot. I can easily go through 250 + rounds in a session, god help me if I get the HK416 or Smith and Wesson MP15 - 22 I shall be putting in a variation for 1000 buy and 1500 hold before long, does anyone know if it's free? It's free - the only variations you pay for are ones which increase the number of firearms you want to possess. J.
