durbsguy
Hi guys I have seen there are several stock stains and rejuvenation kits available. Has anyone had any experience doing this and would be able to recommend which one to purchase.

Taz72
Not an expert but I used a Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil set a while back and was very pleased with the results. Just takes time, patience and elbow grease. If you google it there's lots of info. You might want to look up guitar finishing as well as its very similar, except they tend to be even more fanatical about the perfect finish than shooters... mick miller
Yup, tru-oil every time. Spend time on the sanding as minor scratches in the wood will show up. The end grain on walnut has very open pores so several light coats will be required. Or take time on the first coat to create a slurry using fine wet and dry. Wet and dry is the best choice for the final sanding of the stock too.
jackinbox99
I found tru-oil came up a little too light when I tried it, but a nice hard durable finish. Id be tempted to stain it first with something a little darker next time I do a stock.
mick miller
I just gave mine three coats with Birchwood Casey walnut strain first. Came up a treat.
evo
i did mine with wire wool,,medium grade first then fine second,,i gave it 4 coats of linseed oil and left it to stand 24hrs between coats, after the last coat i left it to stand for 4 days and the oil had totally soaked right into the wood,,i then lightly buffed it with a cloth and it has come out stunning,,it has now got a satin finish to the wood and looks great,,i just thought if its good enough for a cricket bat its good enough for my stock and forend,,its also alot cheaper than the casey oil,,and you get enough to do about 3000 gun stocks  good luck with your choice of finish,,,,evo
