I went out last night to bait up an area for some squirrels, i thought i may as well take the shotgun just in case. As Ki and I were getting closer to the baited spot Ki stopped and marked a squirrel in a tree, I was amazed as i have never trained her to do so. The squizzer stopped on a branch but i couldnt get a shot off so took a shot at the base of the branch he was sitting on. The shot blew the branch off along with the squizzer and the lot came tumbling down. I didnt realise at the time i had fired both barrels, when i realised it was too late and mr squizzer was making a sharp exit. Before I could stop her Ki was off and on him and ragged him, it was dead in a second! I was very pleased when she returned it to hand but was still a bit worried as id heard horrible stoies about squirrels attaching themselves to dogs faces and i didnt need another vets bill as our cats is in the vets having a leg amputated for £650!!! after being caught up in a fan belt, poor sod! Aftre checking the dog she is fine! I was well pleaed but will not be making a habbit of it!! On the way back i had a jackdaw.

Good shooting my friend but I would teach your springer to sit to shot. Its fine for a terrier to kill squerrels but it the fastest way to make your springer hard mouthed by letting in run in after you shoot and pick up live squerrels.

She is taught very well when it comes to picking pheasant, pigeon and corvids, I think the sight of the bushy tale ten foot from her was too much. I'm not too bothered about one little hicup, as said i wont be making a habbit of it!! And by the way she is not a springer. Cheers
