garymc
Folks Would really appreciate your help on this one. Mainly do wildfowling, but would like to join a pheasant syndicate next season. I've been on a few let days and really enjoyed them. Im planning on meeting a few shoot organisers over the next month and would like to know if there's anything specific I need to look for or ask about? Thanks in advance for your help! Guest cookoff013
well really it depends on your budget and what you actually want to afford. there can be any formats such as walk one stand one (half gun) or full gun, and either of these for the season. if there are 10 guns, on a 50 bird day, thats 5 birds each. not many, but can be a grand day out. unless you want to become really un popular or escorted of their property, do not ask for the purchase documents to see how many birds are put down. An associate of mine told me to do this, (i didnt, as that is very rude. I couldnt believe my associate said that !) have a chat with the shooting organiser, if he dosent have your bag he`ll know someone who might. AlistairB
Starter for 10: How many guns are there in total? What’s the format of the day? When do you stop for a break? Do you have a quick break, shoot through and have a ate lunch etc? What were the returns last year and the shot:kill ratio if they have it? (Useful to know if returns seem low but shot:kill ratio is high) How many drives are there and how often are they used? What additional monies are due on the day? (Tips, refreshments, sweepstake etc) What’s the dress code? Is there a good strong regular team of beaters and dogs? What’s the position on your own dogs? (If you have them) How do you get around between drives? Any 'special' rules? Whats the policy on guests? What cartridges do you need? Fibre/plastic, steel etc Depending on your walking ability - are there any walking gun drives? What’s expected of you on beaters day? Is it purely a syndicate or are other days sold? If so, how many? Try and find out a bit about the other guns if you can, as they can make a lot of difference to the atmosphere on a shoot.
